Maiar
The Maiar (singular: Maia) are beings from J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy legendarium. They are lesser Ainur that entered Eä in the beginning of time. The Valar are equivalent to archangels. The Maiar are lesser than the Valar, being the equivalent to angels, though still considerably more powerful than mere mortals. According to the Valaquenta in The Silmarillion, when the Ainur became enamoured of the vision of the newly-created universe, Eä, and descended into it, they came in two orders: The Valar, who were greater, and the Maiar, who acted as servants and helpers to the Valar. The uncorrupted Maiar remained in service of the Valar. In about T.A. 1000, the Valar sent some Maiar to Middle-earth to help contest the evil of Sauron; they still had great skills of hand and mind but were cloaked in the guise of men. They were known as the Istari. ______________________________________________________ The Maiar was founded in 2003 at the Belgarth Armageddon event by TuSocks in order to promote excellence in female fighting and equality in gender recognition throughout foam fighting. The group was originally established as a cross-gaming household existing in Belegarth, Dagorhir, and later brought to Amtgard by TuSocks and Flare. Rankings within the Maiar Suri - Our 14 and under players who participate as a member of the Maiar. Maiar - The basic level of membership. Valar - These are the teachers of the Maiar, the Highest Choir of Angels. Although they were the un-corruptable Maiar in Tolkeins writings, they are the darkest of demons on the ditch field. Istari - Ditchfield Security & Justice - These rankings among the Maiar are male members of the House who support the goals of the Maiar and keep the ditchfield "equal and blind to gender" from the corrupting influence of "sluffing over aggressive mortals". History: Today Maiar's teacher's are everywhere and travel throughout RW teaching at every opportunity. We encourage all females not to just field but above all compete. We encourage Female athletiscm above all. There are many households in Amtgard that support women in general however Maiar is strictly dedicated to combat and other forms there of that help women field better in bofer sports. i.e., MMA. |
